Snettisham Shorebird Paradise

It’s been a while since I posted anything in my personal blog. This is mainly due to the lots of things I had to do with the getting up of the World Shorebirds’ Day. Another reason of my absence was the lack of birding activity worth to mention. After a stressful week at work, IContinueContinue reading “Snettisham Shorebird Paradise”

Coastal waders with a non-wader lifer

I should have prepared more carefully my moving to England. I still cannot explain myself why I did move to an almost wader neutral area of the United Kingdom. After dropping my daughter off at the airport I decided to visit the closest coastline to treat myself with wader watching. Following Chris Baines, local birder’sContinueContinue reading “Coastal waders with a non-wader lifer”

The spectacular Norfolk

After a successful business event on Saturday it was a gift to spend a whole day with my Hungarian friend, Attila Seprényi, around the northern coastline of Norfolk. He’s also a wader fan, living in Sweden, but been on a training here in the UK for a few weeks. I haven’t met him for aboutContinueContinue reading “The spectacular Norfolk”

Some wader-watching at the Willen Lake

OK, don’t expect a great abundance of waders at the Willen Lake (Milton Keynes). I just liked to find some as this day was a bit different from the usual forest birding. I enjoyed my time at the lakes despite getting there by public transport was a nightmare for me. Public transport is just aContinueContinue reading “Some wader-watching at the Willen Lake”

Would two dowitcher species have been too good?

A lazy flock of Black-tailed Godwits and Northern Lapwings with Black-headed Gulls on the South Lake. © Gyorgy Szimuly Today I spent all the day with Elis and Rick Simpson for a very good reason. For birding! I have been planning to make a visit to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre together with László Musicz, the Hungarian wild gooseContinueContinue reading “Would two dowitcher species have been too good?”

Long time seen shorebird galore

I have spent a bit more time in the field as usual for the last couple of days. September is no longer an easy month for me but birding somehow sets me free of worries and sadness. The fishponds are a good escape point from daily stupidity. One of the largest ponds are under drainageContinueContinue reading “Long time seen shorebird galore”

Eurasian Oystercatcher arrived by the storm

This afternoon I went out to the fishpods with my local birding buddy and checked the drained pond. Last night we had a powerful but short storm and all night long rain. We hoped to find some nice birds as a result of the storm. We started birdwatching in light pouring rain which stopped duringContinueContinue reading “Eurasian Oystercatcher arrived by the storm”

More nesting shorebirds around

May is one of the most interesting month in birding in Hungary. I love to be out and look for nesting birds as well as for rarities. Still most of the days of May I have to spend at home due to my pollen allergy. The strong reactions make birding almost impossible and noisy. HoweverContinueContinue reading “More nesting shorebirds around”

Fishing is under way at the fishponds

I had a short visit to Ferencmajor fishponds to check the drained pond for waders. Most probably due to fishermen disturbance very low number of waders was seen in the late afternoon. The pond looked to be perfect and the warming weather certainly produced enough food supply for migrant waders. Number of Little Ringed Plovers isContinueContinue reading “Fishing is under way at the fishponds”

When web images come alive

What a stunning day we had today. 20 days ago we have had almost the same trip to the Kiskunság National Park what we did today. Dani came with me and he also enjoyed the all day outing despite being quite tired by the school.  Early morning found us on the northwest side of theContinueContinue reading “When web images come alive”
